Hole centres and overall length: read both

Why a fixing measurement alone may not identify the size you need.

8814 Round Bar Cabinet Pull — Brushed Brass
Model 8814 · Brushed brass · original catalogue product image

A cabinet pull can have more than one important length. Hole centres describe the spacing between fixing positions; overall length describes the full printed length of the product. Keeping them separate is especially useful when replacing existing hardware or preparing a furniture schedule.

The same centres can appear more than once

The 8814 brushed-brass table contains two rows at 64 mm hole centres: one with a 100 mm overall length and another with a 115 mm overall length. It also includes two rows at 96 mm centres and two at 128 mm centres.

This means “8814, 64 mm” is not a complete selection. The overall length needs to travel with the centre distance. A quotation line that records both is less likely to be confused with another row from the same table.

Compare a second model carefully

The 8804 brushed-nickel pull gives another useful example. Its 64 mm hole-centre row has an 80 mm overall length, while its 128 mm row has a 143 mm overall length. Those overall dimensions differ from the 8814 examples even where a centre distance is shared.

A matching centre distance can be relevant to an existing pair of fixing holes, but it does not establish the rest of the fit. The profile, width, printed height and relationship with nearby details still need review.

Record a replacement requirement

Measure and record the existing fixing centres independently of the visible handle length. Note the available space around the front and the furniture thickness. If the old hardware leaves a visible mark, record that separately rather than assuming a new pull will cover it.

When the catalogue includes a single-hole row, keep that description intact. It should not be converted into a guessed centre distance. For any mounting detail that is not stated, request a drawing for the selected model and size.

Use a complete line in your schedule

  • Model and finish: for example, 8814 in brushed brass.
  • Fixing arrangement: single-hole, or the stated hole centres.
  • Overall length and the other printed dimensions from that same row.
  • Quantity, furniture-front details and any clearances still to be reviewed.

Before drilling or ordering, ask for confirmation of the selected size and the appropriate fixing information. The table is a selection reference; it should not be replaced by a measurement taken from the on-screen photograph.
